Florence took care of the last
months Newsletter article, which
was greatly appreciated. I am on
the mend and feeling much better.
It will just take some time.
Speaking of time, it is now
October and the leaves are
beginning to turn. Soon it will be
time to start raking and picking up
leaves. The date of next General
Membership meeting is Sunday October 30, 2011. We had
to move the meeting because the hall was rented for a
wedding.
The Downriver Italian American Club has been in
existence for forty years. As part of our 40th year
celebration, we went to a Tiger baseball game and
enjoyed lunch at Portofino followed by a boat ride on the
Detroit River. Both events were successful. Speaking
about the Tigers it should be an exciting October, with the
Tigers in the playoffs.
Our participation in the 4th of July Parade went very well.
We were joined by members of the Downriver Santa
Rosalia Club, who brought along many of their member’s
children. I look forward to an even bigger turnout next
year. I was also invited by Joe Giammalva (President of
Santa Rosalia) to attend their fall Dinner Dance. It was a
very nice event.
The new pastor (from Palermo, Sicilia) at Holy Family
Church in Detroit has asked to make a presentation to
our members. DIAC, along with the Santa Rosalia Club,
will jointly sponsor this event on Wednesday, November
2, 2011 at our hall. The date given at the September
General Membership Meeting had to be changed.
Please see the Calendar of Coming Club/Hall Events in
the newsletter for future events.
